USB Cables¶
Low Profile USB Cable
With the introduction of the Low Profile assembly option, there are now two types of cable. They are NOT compatible, and using the wrong type may damage your Beacon. When you order a kit, the normal cable is included by default. This works for right angle and normal assembly. The low profile cable is different and available on request.
1. Which Kind of Cable Do I Have?¶
RevH models all use the same cable type, formerly known as the Low Profile cable. Normal cables will remain available for replacement and for RevD Normal and Right Angle units.
Model | Configuration | Cable Type |
---|---|---|
RevD | Normal | Normal |
RevD | Right Angle | Normal |
RevD | Low Profile | Low Profile |
RevH | Normal | Low Profile |
RevH | Low Profile | Low Profile |
2. I'm Still Not Sure, How Can I Tell?¶
The only difference is the pin ordering on the connector.
Here is what the two cable options look like:
3. I Need the Other Type, What Are My Options?¶
If you ordered a kit, but want to assemble the low profile option, this should be the only time your cable is incorrect.
Kits that were shipped after announcement of the Low Profile option include a spare connector so that the cable can be "re-pinned".
If you modified your Beacon or otherwise just need the other version, you can source a new connector and do a re-pinning. The part number is 0355070400

4. I'm Assembling a Non-Standard Option, Which Cable do I Need?¶
If you are building off-script, you should check the pin ordering against the markings on the amplifier board. Beacon uses the standard USB signal ordering and coloring.
Marking | Signal | Color |
---|---|---|
5 | 5V | Red |
- | D- | White |
+ | D+ | Green |
G | Gnd | Black |
If the cable doesn't match the connector, you may need to re-pin your cable.
